THE BEST IN ILLINOIS HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL RECRUITING!

Preseason Class AA All-State
by Pat Benninger
November 9, 2006

There are many top players in Class AA basketball.  However, five stand among the rest.  Here is MidStateHoops.com's 2006-2007 Preseason Class AA All-State.

1st Team All-State (Preseason P.O.Y.)

The recent Memphis commit, unsurprisingly, has earned the title of becoming the first ever MidStateHoops.com Preseason Class AA Player of the Year.  For the second year straight, Rose is the state's best player and is expected to lead his well-rounded team back to the state tournament and repeat as champions.  Last season, "Pooh" averaged 20 ppg, 8.5 rpg, and 8.2 apg.  This year, expected him to produce a statline just as complete.

Verbally Committed: Memphis

Evan Turner
6'6" / 175

Position: 3/1

St. Joseph
Illinois Wolves

1st Team All-State

Turner was rarely seen in the top ten of the class of 2007 players at this time, just a year ago.  Since, he has had a big breakthrough and earned a spot on the Class AA Preseason All-State team.  The 6'6" point forward quickly jumped to the #2 ranking in his class during the middle part of the season, last year, and lead the Hawks of St. Joseph, along with Demetri McCamey, to a sectional championship appearance.  Look for him to attempt to lead his team even further into the playoffs this season.

Verbally Committed: Ohio State

1st Team All-State

McCamey teams with Evan Turner to create one of the state's most dangerous combinations.  He is the most experienced player on a tough St. Joseph's squad and should be one of the team's biggest leaders.  His presence on the floor has helped Coach Pingatore succeed for the past two years andd hopefully this year, it will do the same, only this time, it will help the Westchester, Illinois team succeed to an even better finish.

Verbally Committed: Illinois

Demetri McCamey
6'3" / 210

Position: 1

St. Joseph

Tim Flowers
6'5" / 240

Position: 4

Simeon
MeanStreets Express

1st Team All-State

He may be undersized but Flowers' heart makes up for it.  He is the most dominant inside player in Class AA basketball and a huge contributor to the success of the reigning state champions.  Last year, Flowers put up 18.5 ppg and 10 rpg.  He maned down the post last year for a perimeter oriented team but this year, he will have help inside, so expect him to be even more dangerous.

Verbally Committed: Wisconsin-Milwaukee

1st Team All-State

Is considered among the state's top scorers.  "Juice" entered high school with Chicago's most highly touted 2007 class.  He has since been the leading scorer for the Lions and that should not change in his fourth season of play.  Hopefully he can help Lincoln Park to a more successful season this winter since the past few years have been disappointing for he and his team.

Verbally Committed: Northwestern

Michael Thompson

Position: 1
