THE BEST IN ILLINOIS HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL RECRUITING!

Player Focus: Jacob Tate
by Pat Benninger
April 11, 2006

The deep south part of the state is filled with talent and size.  One of those big sized talents is Jacob Tate of Salem High School.

Jacob stands 6’9” and weights in at approximately 205 lbs.  He’s a good shot blocker and rebounder and is good at altering shots around the basket.  He isn’t fully developed on the offensive end at this point, due to the fact he’s played with a guard oriented team since his freshman year, though his mid range jumper and in is very solid.

As a junior, Tate’s high school stats were pretty fair.  He averaged over 10 ppg and just in around six to seven rebounds.  He was a key on the defensive end for Salem and should make an even bigger impact next winter.

During the spring and summer, Tate’s father, Tom, is looking to get Jacob into some exposure camps, where he will be able to get some college looks.  As far as the AAU circuit is concerned, Jacob will most likely play with either Midwest Storm, St. Louis Falcons, or Team Illinois, though he has yet to stumble upon a sure decision.

Colleges that have already taken note of Tate include Wichita State, Wyoming, and USC.  We are sure his stock will rise tremendously through camps and AAU basketball, if he decides to play.  He has a lot of potential and may become the next big thing out of the “south”.
