THE BEST IN ILLINOIS HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL RECRUITING!

Player Focus: Brett Thompson
by Pat Benninger
April 10, 2006

Brett Thompson is one of the rising stars in the state of Illinois.  Though he is virtually unknown outside of the downstate area, he has already proven himself to be one of the top prospects in the class of 2008.

The 6’11” 190 lbs Thompson, has emerged as one of the top players in the deep south and in the state.  This season at Vienna High School, Brett averaged 16 ppg and 12 reb.  He was named as a Class A all-state selection by a numerous amount of sources.

Some of Brett’s strengths include his ability to rebound and block shots.  However, his most impressive skill is his perimeter shot, as he shot 47% from the three this past season.  Once he adds strength, he will be a force to be reckoned with.

Colleges have already gotten a chance to view Thompson.  The Salukis of Southern Illinois have already offered him while Illinois, Purdue, LSU, Northern Iowa, and Oklahoma State are strongly recruiting him.

Last year, Brett competed on the 15U level with Larry Butler’s Illinois Warriors.  This season, he has decided to stay south and compete on the 17U level with the St. Louis Eagles, perhaps the most prestigious AAU team in the state of Missouri.  There, he teams with Class of 2007 Illinois-recruit, Mike Tisdale.
