Glenbrook North Junior Receiving Interest
Glenbrook North hasn't had a Division I player since Jon Scheyer signed with Duke in 2006. Now, all you seem to hear about is sophomore sensation Alex Dragicevich. However, they also have a D1 guy that slipped off the scene in Tyler Ponticelli. Ponticelli, a 6'7" senior, may have slipped off the radar in the media but coaches are still paying attention. He and his high school have had a great season thus far and don't look to be slowing down. "Our season has been going pretty well so far," stated Tyler. I think we are 13-5." After a few close losses early, the Spartans have responded strong. In addition, 4 or their 5 losses were within six points. Individually, Tyler has been playing at a very high level. "I'm averaging about 15 ppg, 7 to 8 rpg, 2 to 3 apg, while shooting 46% from three." Ponticelli's college recruitment has been going well also. He isn't getting the attention that Jon Scheyer was once getting but has carved a strong enough reputation in the minds of many mid major coaches. "I have received a lot of interest from most of the Ivy League and Patriot League schools. Other schools that I have gotten interest from are Northwestern, Northeastern, Valparaiso, Michigan, Wisconsin-Green Bay, Davidson, Iowa, Stanford, Loyola (Chicago), and Illinois State." Of the Ivy and Patriot Leagye schools, Ponticelli says that Brown, Harvard, Holy Cross, and Cornell are recruiting him the hardest. When asked what factors will be accounted for when choosing a school, Tyler responded, "academics will probably be a major factor in the school I choose to go to. My dad and my coaches at Glenbrook North have been helping me out the most, specifically, Coach Weber and Coach Lidskin." GBN will be in action Friday against Highland Park and take on Proviso East on Saturday.
