Five Unheralded 2009 Low-Mid Major Prospects
July 10, 2008

Russell Burns 6-foot-5 200 lbs SF Bolingbrook (Illinois Speed)
Burns has good strength and rebounds very well from the perimeter.  He’s got a very solid build and is very good attacking the rim.  He finishes well and shows a nice handle and good passing skills.  He’s very quick and athletic.  Russell is not much of a shooter and will definitely want to improve his shooting stroke but with his combination of size, aggressiveness, and athleticism, he could be a very good player at the Division I level.

Bryson Johnson 6-foot 165 lbs PG Champaign Centennial (Illinois Elite)
Bryson is a quick guard that uses both hands well.  He is a very good ball handler and an efficient passer.  He is good at getting to the rim, loves to push the ball, and exerts a lot of energy on both ends of the floor.  He isn’t much of a vocal leader but does his part to make sure he’s putting forward all his efforts to helping his team succeed.

Wesley Powell 5-foot-11 170 lbs PG Joliet Township (Illinois Red Raiders)
Powell is a very quick point guard with a hard-to-guard first step.  He has the ability to score and distribute the ball.  He is a good shooter from 3, has a very nice midrange pullup, and finishes strong at the rim.  He plays with a chip on his shoulder and is definitely hard to matchup with one-on-one.  He is more of a scoring point guard more than a distributor and, though he has the ability to do either, he must learn to understand when to challenge his defender and when to swing it.

Dominique Warnsley 6-foot-2 160 lbs Guard Warrensburg-Latham (Team Illinois)
Warnsley is a scoring guard capable of filling two positions.  He is very smooth and efficient as he usually only takes shots that he has a high chance at making.  He is pretty skilled as he can handle it, pass it, and shoot it from the 3 and the midrange area.  Dominique shows flashes of being a good defender but must become more consistent at that end of the floor.  He will definitely need to gain strength but has a chance to be a nice player at the next level.

Monty Wilson 6-foor-4 190 lbs SG Decatur MacArthur (Team Illinois)
Monty is a strong guard with good size for the perimeter.  He is a very good rebounder and can finish well around the rim.  As a junior in high school, he proved that he can score the ball averaging 20.1 ppg.  He is a good shooter and finishes well attacking the rim.  His handle could definitely stand some improvement as could his defense but his combination of size, versatility, and his ability to shoot the basketball make him an attractive prospect.
