2008's Best Unheralded
by Pat Benninger
December 17, 2007

Each year, there are tons of high school seniors who go overlooked.  Some end up at junior college and end up becoming more successful than some of the more highly touted players in their classes during their high school careers.  Some go off to prep schools and do the same.  We at MidStateHoops.com have made it our duty to get those kids enough exposure to show college coaches that they are ready out of high school.  The following is a list of the best in-state seniors you've probably never heard of.

Class of 2008
Best of the Unheralded

Name

Hgt/Wgt

Position

High School

Ruben Cotto

6'0" / 180

Guard

Alton

A scorer deluxe.  Cotto can put it in from anywhere.  He's a stocky guard and plays simliar to former Alton star, and current Evansville, freshman Kavon Lacey except Ruben is more explosive.  He's a transfer from Miami, FL and has already solidified himself as one of the state's best.

Ryan Connolly

6'8" / 255

Power Forward

Springfield Lanphier

A wide body big man.  Connolly was first introduced this past year by MidStateHoops.com.  He's a good rebounder that keeps the ball high at all times.  He's very strong and physical and is a great outlet passer.

Homer Denson

6'6 ½" / 220

Power Forward

Chicago Von Steuben

A strong forward with long extremities.  Denson has a nice hook shot and is improving on the offensive end.  He's active and is very good on the boards.

Adam Hodge

6'4" / 180

Shooting Guard

South Elgin

A poor man's Jon Scheyer (which is in NO WAY a bad thing).  Hodge can really shoot the ball with both range and accuracy.  He is a good rebounder and takes good shots.  Will be a productive four year player wherever he ends up.

Deonte Lundeen

5'9" / 155

Point Guard

Chicago Von Steuben

A very quick point guard who plays in the shadows of Northern Illinois bound Mike DiNunno.  Lundeen plays with excellent speed and is a very heady passer.  He sees the floor well and looks to distribute before looking to shoot.  He has all the makings of a low major-mid major Division I point guard.

Isiah Nunn

6'7" / 180

Small Forward

Moline

Defintely a Division I player.  Nunn is very long and has very good athleticism.  He can score the ball from the perimeter and in the post.  He rebounds well and is good defensively.
