Team Illinois' Johnson Off The Board
Spencer Johnson of Laurinburg Institute has signed a letter of intent to attend Missouri-Kansas City. Johnson, a 2007 prospect, decided on the Kangaroos today. Spencer is a versatile forward that competes hard. He has a big time knack for pursuing and grabbing rebounds and is also a good shooter from both the midrange and beyond the arch. He has the ability to defend the wing and the perimeter and passes well for his size. The 6'7" 210 lbs combo forward spent his first four years of high school competing at Champaign Central before prepping at Laurinburg Institute this past season where he averaged 12 points and 10 rebounds. As a senior, Johnson found himself on many Illinois All-State teams. On the AAU circuit, Spencer has spent the last four seasons with Dodie Dunson's Team Illinois as a 17U starter each season. This past summer, he caught the eye of a lot of coaches including Ball State, St. Bonaventure, Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (offer), Eastern Michigan, and Iona. Johnson becomes the second Illinois prep to sign with UMKC as Reggie Hamilton (Thornwood) did so during the month of April. Both will be eligible for the 2007-08 season.
