Hunt's Move Proven Successful
The city of Bloomington-Normal has been known to produce players in the past few years. In the past three years, eight players from the area have either committed or signed to play collegiately at the Division I level. Most of the guys played their entire high school careers in the twin cities but a few have left to play high school ball outside the area like Kevin Woods (Chicago Leo) and Justin Safford (Charis Prep). Recently, a former Bloomington-Normal citizen and player has been garnering a lot of attention from collegiate programs.
Greg Hunt is a 6'0" 185 lbs combo guard. He is a rising senior and currently attends St. John's Catholic Prep in Frederick, Maryland. Hunt is known for his ability to shoot the ball, defend, and get to the basket using his strength. As a freshman, Hunt attended Bloomington High School. He participated on the freshman squad before transferring to the state of Maryland. He has played two complete seasons at St. John's and earned a reputation as one of the top players in that area. During his junior compaign, Greg found himself a part-time starter for, what was then named, St. John's at Prospect Hall. He put up a very balanced statline as he averaged 12 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds. He was faced off against some fierce competition including Towson Catholic who featured Malcolm Delaney, a 2007 prospect committed to Virginia Tech, and 6'10" Donte Green, a McDonald's All-American committed to Syracuse. Though his team loss, Hunt showed his determination and ability as a player as he scored 15 points and pulled down 7 rebounds against the all-star cast. He also poured in 19 against Maryland recruit Sean Mosley and Baltimore (MD) St. Francis, 25 against Christ Church, and 15 points and 6 assists against Arizona commit-Jeff Withey and San Diego (CA) Horizon. Currently, Greg has been hearing from a good amount of mid major programs. Akron, Albany, Binghamton, George Mason, Mount St. Mary's, The Citadel, and Yale have all shown a good amount of interest in him. He's also heard from Georgetown, though he is not a priority. Though no programs have offered, it seems that some may be doing so after a little further evaluation.
Hunt has mentioned that he is a possible prep school candidate. Because he is young for his grade (doesn't turn 17 until October), he feels it may be most beneficial for him to stay an extra year but it all depends on what schools decide to offer scholarships and where he would fit in their program. Greg competes on the AAU circuit with Maryland Hurricanes.
