Brandon Dunson To Transfer Back In-State
Coach Lennox Forrester and the Southern Illinois-Edwardsville Cougars have landed their biggest recruiting coup yet. They have picked up Division I transfer and former Illinois prep star Brandon Dunson. As a senior at Bloomington Central Catholic High School, Dunson averaged 14 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists. He rated as the state's second best shooting guard and thirteenth best player. "I was too far away from home," stated Dunson, who picked Tennessee-Chattanooga over scholarship offers from fifteen other Division I institutions. "I need to be closer to my family right now and I feel this was going to be the best choice. It's only two hours away, I fit in the system, and I built a good relationship with Coach Forrester when I was recruited by Bradley." There was no bad blood between the Mocs' head coach John Shulman and, the now, 6'4" 183 lbs Dunson. "Coach (Shulman) and I talked about it before the season and decided that I would redshirt to help with the transition and get better acclimated to the college life to see if I liked it better. After the first month I let him know that I was feeling the same way and he agreed to releasing me. He completely understood where I was coming from. We still have a great relationship. It was just unfortunate it couldn't workout location-wise right now." Brandon will redshirt the remainder of the season in Edwardsville and have four years of eligiblity starting in the 2008-09 season. With the signing of the athletic scorer, Forrester is starting to build his reputation as a master recruiter in addition to being a good coach as evident by his term as the associate head coach under Jim Les at Bradley.
