Weber Adds 3rd 2009 Guard
by Pat Benninger
October 11, 2007

Wow!  Bruce Weber is starting to show that he can get it done.  In one day, he has signed 2 top 75 national recruits as well as one of the top guards in the state of Illinois.  6'5" Sterling wing Joseph Bertrand has just announced his verbal commitment to the Fighting Illini.

Bertrand is an athletic wing with all the tools to be a great college guard.  He has good ability and outstanding potential as a prolific scorer.  The Illinois Wolves guard selected UI over offers from Marquette, Southern Illinois, and Notre Dame.

This class is becoming reminiscent of the 2004-05 National Championship runner up backcourt of Dee Brown, Deron Williams, and Luther Head.  A three headed monster is starting to develop.

What does this mean for 2008?
It seems with all the new commitments, there won't be a guard signed in 2008...there may not even be a player signed as they may want to bank the scholarships for a post in the 2009 class or for the 2010 class.  Though the Illini need perimeter scoring badly, they will have to count on Jamar Smith for a season until they can get this class in and prepped for Big Ten play.

The future is definitely bright in Champaign!
