P.E.P. Fall Classic Recap
Vince Carter and Project Education Plus have successfully completed another great P.E.P. Fall Classic, and yes, once again, MidStateHoops.com was in the building. Illinois Stars defeated Team Illinois Hawks Blue in the championship game while Illinois Warriors A handily defeated Rising Stars I NIT title game. The Illinois Stars were led by 6'6" Evan Turner, who had a tremendous tournament. Against Illinois Warriors A, Turner scored the game winning basket over 6'7" Indiana-bound Brandon McGee. In the title game, he finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds. D.J. Richardson, James Kinney, Rob Belcore, Steve Walker, and Seth Evans also competed well for the Stars. Team Illinois Hawks Blue featured Illinois-bound Demetri McCamey, Tim Flowers, Justin Hightower, Brian Smith, and Donald Pritchard, who all played well. After going undefeated throughout the tournament, Chris Head, and his team, came up short of their third tournament title. Marcus Jordan led Rising Stars I well. Though the team was made up of all sophomores, they competed well. D'mitri Riggs, Nik Garcia, Cully Payne, Jeremiah Hill, and Jordan Prosser were also contributors to the team's success. Though they were beat by the Warriors in the NIT championship game, they, themselves had some quality victories including a 46-45 comeback battle against Gametime, out of Peoria, Illinois. The NIT champions, Illinois Warriors A, were led by the fire power of Brandon McGee, Jacob Pullen, and Aaron Johnson. Kevin Woods, Dion Dixon, Kodhamus Llongbey, and Parrish West also played well. Michael McGahee may have had the the team's top performance as he had a very solid showing, including a thunderous, and-one dunk over Justin Taylor on a one on two breakaway. Rising Stars II had a solid tournament until they were, eventually, knocked out in the semi-final game by Illinois Stars. Michael Thompson, Jeffery Jordan, Ceola Clark, D.J. Glavan, Tim Baines, and Godzie Umeadi, all came up big throughout the tournament. Michael Stovall, who wasn't present on day one of the event, made some big plays for the Stars on the second day. Kevin Stineman, of Illinois Playmakers, may have enhanced his stock the most after a tremendous effort in a 2 point overtime lost to Chicago Ferrari. Stineman scored 25 points while being guarded by class of 2008 star, A.J. Rompza, and holding Rompza to nine points. First Team All-Tournament: Second Team: Third Team: Hororable Mention:
