THE BEST IN ILLINOIS HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL RECRUITING!

Dehm to Furman
by Jason McGee
October 2, 2006

6'1" Peoria Richwoods guard, Justin Dehm, has verbally committed to Furman.

Dehm is a deceptively quick guard who plays fundamental basketball but manages to incorporate some flavor with his game. He is a heady player who always has his head in the game and makes big plays in the biggest situations.

During the AAU season, Dehm played with the powerhouse Illinois Warriors. They are known as one of the most prolific AAU teams across the country. Among their top players is his high school teammate Bill Cole who is verbally committed to Illinois.

Dehm chose Furman over offers from Arkansas State, High Point, Eastern Illinois, and Western Illinois.

"I loved the coaching staff, and had a really good relationship with them. The guys on the team were great. I think being a priority for them where they offered right after july is a lot better situation than a school where you're the 3rd or 4th option. Also the campus is amazing. They had the best facilities of any place I have visited and the academics are top notch. I could really see myself playing there during the visit and I felt if I really liked it then theres no reason to wait. "

Richwoods figures to be a top team in the state this season. Last season they fell just short in the championship game to Chicago Simeon. Dehm played big in the game hitting a three at the end of regulation to force an overtime which eventually led to their heartbreaking defeat.

"I feel a lot different now that it is over. I have accomplished a goal I've had since I was 5 years old. I think it will force us to work even harder this year because of the expectations that we have for ourselves."

Now that Dehm and Cole are both through with the recruiting process all of their energy can go towards their senior season.
